St. Luke, the author of the third book of the New Testament, is captured here in cold-cast bronze from Unicorn Studios. He is part of the 8""H Evangelist Series. Saints Matthew, Mark and John are also available on this website. These authors of the gospels are shown with the symbols frequently seen in Christian art representing their attributes.
St. Luke's attributes are a winged calf and a portrait of the Virgin and Child. The winged calf is from Revelations 4, where each of the evangelists were represented by the 'four living creatures'. His other attribute, the portrait, comes from a tradition that states Luke painted the portrait. From this tradition, St. Luke was adopted as the patron saint of artists.
